Like the Getty Villa on a previous page, the Griffith Observatory was closed for renovations for a few years.  I remember going up to the Observatory shortly before the scheduled closure hearing that it would be open within a couple of years.  Nearly six years later the observatory reopened and I made reservations to visit it.  I wore my James Dean shirt and traveled up the mountain on a bus that picked my aunt and I from the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex in Hollywood.  Everything was so new.  The exhibits were new and bright.  The expanded area, located below the front lawn, is a great additions to the original building.  Suffice to say I took a million pictures from every angel.  Picture 3 in the following sequence shows a model of the observatory and the expanded areas below ground.
