Camera: Canon PowerShot S500, All Taken: 4.13.2006, Altered w/: Photoshop Sometimes you plan to go somewhere and circumstances turn a normal errand into a mini-adventure. April 13, 2006 was just such a day. Because of my new job I had to join the union. I went to the union office in order to pay my dues and get some information. As I walked out I noticed one of the great buildings in Los Angeles was right before me, the former Bullock's Wilshire (above). Formally the Bullock's Wilshire was the most glamorous department store in Los Angeles. In subsequent years the store closed and became a law library, a much better fate than demolition. After going to my union I planned on going to Farmer's Market. On my way there I passed by the Los Angeles Museum of Art, which to my surprise had a Gustav Klimt exhibition running. Klimt is one of my favorite painters, so I walked to the museum and bought a ticket. I checked out the exhibit of Klimt paintings, which included the recent painting sold for $130 million. Farmer's Market is a place I hadn't visited until a few years ago. It really is a great place for a meal. I wanted to go there to try a place that sells crepes. I had a huge crepe and then went on my way back home. On my way home I ended up going back to the museum. I still had my ticket with me so I went to the museum's west wing, formally a May Co. department store. I entered an exhibit room full of mirrors. I took a picture and hoped that it wouldn't come out blurry. Sadly, all the pictures I took were blurry. Still, I posted it because the blur gave it a nice look. At the North Hollywood metro station I looked up and saw the mass of people walking up the stairs and escalators. I went home and enjoyed how going on a small errand turned into a mini adventure that included old beautiful buildings, museums, and a nice meal at the Farmer's Market. |
