  Wilting and Melting

The heat here is deadly, and is making me wilt.  But, life happens and so do the updates to the site.  Last month's Vista Drive update was small because I couldn't get out and take pictures.  To make-up for that this month's Vista Drive update is big, with a dozen new pictures added this month.

In the Composition section of American Bliss I added a poem and a story.  Haven has a new section called Mementos, which is a collection of memories in pictures.

Afterthoughts : World's Smallest Walkman

In the mid 80's Sony came out with a Walkman that was about the size of a cassette case. It was advertised as the "World's Smallest Walkman," and I think it still is.  This thing was barely bigger than the cassette that went into it.  I loved it though, because it was a gadget that no one else I knew had.  To give you an idea of how small it is I took a picture of it next my iPod (right).  It pops out to be a little bigger so that the cassette can fit inside of it.

I'm a gadget guy, and smaller versions of things is my favorite kind of gadget.  Anything that is smaller than the version everyone else has is going to catch my eye.  What I liked about this walkman of mine was that it had a radio.  Even way back when I wanted music in my life nearly everywhere I went.  I also loved to listen to music before I would go to sleep.  Every night I would get under the covers and listen to whatever was on the radio, or whatever cassette I had.  The red glow of the battery indicator shown bright in the darkness of the covers.

Today my old Walkman doesn't work anymore.  I keep it because it's a memory of days past, when I had something no one else had.  Then again, I'm pretty sure not many people have "The World's Smallest Walkman" in their drawer.

Etcetera : Three questions posed to Tia

I interviewed my friend Tia tonight.  I asked her three questions, here are her answers.

Q: How do you eat an Oreo cookie?
A: "Oh, wow.  Oreos freaking rock.  Okay, so first... well, what type of oreos are we talking about here?  Just the regular ones or the double stuffed ones, because they really freaking rock.  First, I break a tiny, tiny part off of the cookie, to make sure it isn't all soft and soggy, because that's just not cool.  Then, I get ANOTHER cookie out, and test it as well.  So, I twist my first oreo apart, and hope that one side gets alllllll of the cream ends up on one side of it.  Then, I do the other cookie the same way... so then I put the two parts of the cookie that has the most together and eat it.  Oh, and yeah, I do eat the other part of the cookies.

Q: What was the most perfect moment of your life so far?
A: "Um, that's a tough one.  I could say the moment I lost my virginity at 13, but that would be lying... or graduation from high school... but that's not it either.  I could say the day that I got my first note from you telling me that I was beautiful, but that would be silly.  The most perfect moment of my life so far is probably the day I realized my self worth.  When I finally stopped believing the garbage that I had been told my whole life... how fat and ugly I am and how I was never going to amount to anything, etc... the day I looked into my mirror and realized that I like myself... and I even think I'm kinda cute... that is it so far.  You can never really love others until you love yourself."

Q: If you could do anything what would it be, and why?
A: "I would learn to really realize that there is 'no day but today' to quote my favorite musical "Rent."  By the way, it's coming to movie theaters 11/11/05.  Everyone go watch it!  And, if that's an invalid answer, then I would love to be rich and adopt a Chinese baby girl and name her Nevaeh.  That's heaven spelled backwards, just so you know.  Also, I would make everything work better for Eric, because he's the best guy ever and I love him very much!  I would also make him move to the south, where living is cheaper... and that's because I live in the south and he could see me all the time!  Woo!"

I wanted to thank Tia for taking the time to answer my questions.
