Afterthoughts : This Past Month

April was a month of working extra hours on library projects, and spending nearly all my free time with TheGirl.  Throw in a couple of trips to Disneyland, an accident, and booze and you have my April in a nutshell.

April 1, This coming week promises to be a long one.  Mostly because I've been asked to work tomorrow, Monday.  I'm getting a few extra hours at work to work on a special project.  And of course I'm working today.

TheGirl's new Cheverolet Equinox, Dharma

April 6, Usually on Fridays I work as a Page at the library.  This week they asked me to cover a driver's shift.  I was glad because it means more money in my pocket.  So I went about my route, which was super easy, and had a pretty good day at work.  Mainly because I was out of the office nearly the entire time.  After work TheGirl and I had plans to have dinner and drinks with a mutual friend/co-worker, Arpine.  She's the girl that posed for me last year.  Dinner and drinks were quite nice, and our good times will hopefully begat good times again in future outings with Arpine.  Tonight we went to Damon's in Glendale.  A place TheGirl had been promising to take me for the longest time.  The food was pretty good, though I can't really say since I had so much booze in me.  A good time was definitely had.  Hope to repeat it again soon.  However, the big news was TheGirl getting herself a new car (pictured above).  She went ahead and leased a new car, a Chevy Equinox that she has named Dharma.  She felt she deserved it.  I hope it doesn't break her bank.  Crazy day.

TheGirl and I, and my fake hipster glasses, at The Getty Center

April 7, I had been mentioning going to The Getty Center with TheGirl nearly since we started our relationship.  Nuts, but we finally made it up there, in order to check out the Herb Ritts photography exhibit.  Last time I went to the Getty the exhibit left me feeling down, because it was so terrible.  This exhibit was quite good.  I expected it would be, what with a photographer the caliber of Ritts having his work showcased.  TheGirl liked it, and despite being a little tired had a good time.  Afterwards we drove down to 3rd Street in Santa Monica in search of a good meal.  But everyone in Los Angeles seemed to have the same idea.  The restaurant we went to was completely packed.  I quickly used technology to find a place that was highly rated and was close to where we were.  Turned out there was a place near my old school, SMC, that was supposedly good.  This according to Yelp.  So we drove there, only to find they only took cash.  Neither of us had any after paying for parking at the Getty.  So we drove to the nearest ATM and withdrew some cash.  TheGirl and I then went back and had margaritas and some Mexican food.  The food was passible, but certainly not bad.  It would seem that every place in this city has the same Mexican food.  I miss my Grandmother's cooking.  It would be great if I could tap her mind and get those recipes and open a restaurant serving her food.  All my friends loved her cooking.  The day ended with TheGirl and me watching the first half of "Citizen Kane."  Good times, indeed.

April 8, Not that I celebrate Easter or anything, but most people that come into the library are always surprised that I'm working on Easter.  If the library is open and I'm scheduled to be there I have no choice but to work on Easter Sunday.  But like I said, it's not like I actually celebrate that day.  So it's always nice to make that money and have a chill day at work.  Although, I rarely have any chill days at work anymore.  At least not on Sundays any more.  Sundays are my bane now.  Patrons come in, act like dopes, and then leave.  I rather they not show up at all at this point.

April 11, The new "semester" of my senior computer class started today at San Marino.  I had two students, despite the fact that there were three on my roster.  Hmm, I don't know what happened to the other student.  And then the lab only had one guy come in.  This doesn't look good for ol' Eric.  I like having that extra money my pocket from teaching this class.  But if people don't show up the city won't have any initiative to hire me again.  Despite the fact that they already have me listed in the summer recreation guide.  Time will tell.  Hope my third student shows up next week.

Too much food

April 13, After a long day at work TheGirl and I decided to get some dinner at Pink's.  She doesn't eat meat, but they do have what she says is a good veggie dog.  I went the meat angel, big time.  The picture above shows you the two hot dogs I at all by myself.  One is a regular chili-cheese dog, topped with bacon.  The other is a hot dog topped with pastrami.  I was starving, and I nearly finished them both.  What can I say, I was hungry.

Wayfarer's chapel, Palos Verdes

April 14, On the advice of my supervisor at San Marino I suggested to TheGirl that perhaps we could go to the Wayfarer's chapel in Palos Verdes.  The chapel is a cute little thing, and obviously popular, because we arrived as a wedding was just wrapping up, and in the hour and a half before we left another wedding was wrapping up as well. The grounds are small, as is the chapel itself, but the serenity of the location makes it a perfect place to sit down and relax and contemplate.  The ground and the chapel are small, so it only took us about an hour and a half to finish looking at everything, including the gift shop.  The chapel is definitely somewhere I want to visit again.  This time with a sandwich in tow.

Disneyland at dusk, on a random Monday visit

April 16, heGirl and I wanted to go to Disneyland before the big trip on the 25th.  But she was working, and I had some thing to do in the morning.  But after she got off work we bolted down there for a little dinner and rides.  I know some of my friends and co-workers wonder how we can go to Disneyland so often and not be bored.  Well, we don't always do the same thing every visit.  Like this visit we pretty much just ate, and went on a couple of rides.  Other times we spend nearly the whole day there and go on a bunch of rides.  It changes, and there's always something new to discover.

Italian sub from Firehouse subs in Oceanside

April 21, When TheGirl went up to Vegas to take care of her Father's house for a week she and her brother ate a a place called Firehouse Subs.  She said the subs were really good, and wished that I could try one.  I looked up the company's website and saw that there were a few sub shops slated to open here in California, but none of them very close to Los Angeles.  But, her daughter was persistent, and checked and checked periodically to see when the nearest sub shop would open.  Well, one did finally open in Oceanside, about a hundred miles south of Los Angeles.  Today we drove down there in Dharma and ate some tasty subs.  The sub I had was an Italian, and it tasted quite good.  I wolfed it down I was so hungry.  It's an added bonus that the sub was actually good.  We have plans on going back, but when the company opens franchises here in Los Angeles.

TheGirl and me at DCA's Redwood Creek challenge trail

April 25, I've visited Disneyland in the rain only a couple of times in my life.  Both times the rain "enhanced" the experience a bit.  Not a lot, because it is hard to deal with rain in general, let alone while waiting in line for an attraction.  The last time I visited in the rain it was quite fun.  This trip was going to be rain-filled, but it never materialized.  The rain that was expected didn't show up.  But the weather was nice, and the clouds kept the sun from burning the top of my head.  And since everyone else was back to their jobs and back in school, the park was practically empty.  TheGirl and I even got to explore a part of DCA I've never visited before, the "Redwood" trail.  It was fun.  We also got to explore the idea of having a drink, getting a little buzzed, and riding some of the attractions while feeling nice.

damage to the other car

April 26, I drive the delivery van on Thursdays, and in nearly a year I haven't had to deal with delivering the books in the rain.  Until today.  It turned out to be a perfectly bad day, because stupid me hit a parked car with the delivery van.  Not just any vehicle, but one belonging to a firefighter.  I smashed the rear driver side door pretty good with the large van.  I had to call work, and had to call the police and make out a report.  It was awful, and I felt ultra stupid for the accident.  My supervisor says not to worry, it happens to everyone.  But I still feel bad.  They took it better than I did, but that's because they won't have the accident on their record.

milage hit 17,000 miles

April 30, The last few days of this month have been pretty tough.  Last week's crack-up will haunt me for a while to come.  Today I went to work on a special project at work and I had to answer more questions about the accident I had with the van.  Super sucks.  But, the one good thing might be that the car I hit was not parked in a parking spot.  Not much to hang my hat on, but I hope it mitigates the whole situation.  Speaking of cars, my car Crockett hit 17,000 miles this morning on my way to work (picture above).  At this rate I'm sure I'll hit over 20,000 by the one year anniversary.

Et Cetera : Worst Album Covers

On my travels around the internet I stumbled upon this site that has some of the worst album covers known to man.  I love this sort of campy stuff, because you know that there's someone out there that found these covers to be perfectly acceptable for their music.  Nuts! Here are a few of my favorites from the site pictured above (click on the above picture to be taken to the site).
