Issue #128 - April 2012
  For All to See

After the horrible month of February anything would be an improvement.  Thankfully March was a vast improvement over the horrible month of February 2012.

Not many updates except to this page.  Wish I had more updates to IMAGE_171, but I've been busy with work and TheGirl.  Good time though.

Afterthoughts : This Past Month

March was a mixed bag of a month, but it was certainly 10,000 times better than February was.  The main events of this month are here in the following paragraphs.  Overall March of this year will go down as a regular month.

Me sitting in front of my photos displayed at the Coffee Table

March 1, One of my biggest goals in life is to get more people to view my photographic work.  I'm trying to hustle to get people to see what I have to offer the world of art.  I took a good size step towards that with the installation of my photos at a local restaurant, The Coffee Table.  Putting up the photos was relatively easy, except for the last group of pictures which were in the corner of the room.  There was a group of three people that were sitting in that corner talking and talking and talking.  I waited them out, but they didn't budge.  Well, I finally ended having to excuse myself in order to place the last pictures up.

Not taken with TheGirl's new camera

March 3, TheGirl is traveling to Hong Kong in less than a week.  She wanted to take as many pictures as possible.  At first she asked if she could take one of my cameras, but then said she didn't want to feel guilty if something happened to my camera.  So we went on a trek to buy one.  Our first stop was the Best Buy in Atwater Village.  Once we knew what camera TheGirl wanted we headed up to Valencia to have some lunch at Wood Ranch.  We hit the Walmart up there and found the same camera that we saw at Best Buy for less.  But they were out of stock.  With the help of some technology we found that nearly all the local Walmarts didn't have the camera.  While at Best Buy we asked which store had the same camera.  We were told the West Hollywood store did.  So after making a couple of calls to the Walmarts that their website claimed had the camera, only to find that their workers didn't really want to check if they had them in stock, we decided to just head to West Hollywood.  Of course we found the camera there, along with a fridge with apps, including Pandora.  Crazy age we live in.  I'm surprised it didn't have Facebook.

Pre-trip dinner

March 7, Tonight the gang, TheGirl, her daughter, and her daughter's boyfriend and me had a going away dinner at the Wood Ranch in Pasadena.  The next ten days are going to feel longer than that.  I wish I could have gone with her to Hong Kong, but I don't have the cash.  Besides, after the last break-up I feel that we need some time apart in order for TheGirl to appreciate what she has with me.  The time apart will allow both of us to come back together with prospective only distance can give.

March 8, TheGirl is off.  She's not even gone one day and I already miss her dearly.  The length of ten days is the longest we have bee apart during our relationship.  Even during our break-ups we weren't apart for that long.  I'm already counting the days until she returns.

March 10, Death visited our family again today.  My aunt's uncle by marriage died today across the street while working in the neighbor's yard.  He was 88 years old.  I've known him all my life, since he moved here from Mexico.  He had a family in Mexico, but he lived the last 45 years here in Los Angeles.  From what we gather he wasn't feeling well when he came to work.  It wasn't until the end of the day and he finally sat down and then collapsed.  He was taken to the hospital where he passed away.  Several hours later the police came by to inform us of what happened.  Having to visit the hospital to identify his body was like in the past with my Grandmother and Mother.  I didn't panic, it's old hat now.  Death isn't new anymore.  It still hurts, but the shock isn't as much.  That could change depending on who in the family goes next.  I hope it's no one for a long time.  Tonight was a long night of phone calls and gathering information.  The end of next week is the anniversary of my Mother's passing.  Not a good week to come.

Disneyland model

March 12, Since I haven't been to Disneyland in weeks, and I had the day off, I decided to take a random but completely necessary trip down to Disneyland.  From the onset I knew I wasn't going to be at the park all day.  As soon as I arrived I knew that I wouldn't stay long because of the large crowds.  That was the story of the day, crowds.  But, since TheGirl wasn't with me I decided that this trip would be more about walking around, shopping, and taking pictures.  My journal entry for that day has more pictures (A completely necessary if not random trip to Disneyland).  I took advantage of my slow pace to get some foods I hadn't eaten in a while, like a corn dog from the little red wagon on Main Street.  There's always a line, but not today, because I ate rather early.  I bolted from the park at around 3pm to avoid the growing crowds.  All in all a nice trip, but not as nice as when I go with TheGirl.  Next week we'll go together.

March 16, Tonight after work was was socially filled with a quick dinner with my homeless buddy Dane, and then drinks at The Coffee Table lounge with my model/co-worker Arpine.  First stop was Rally's in Glendale.  Dane had given me some coupons for Rally's, and since he was kind enough to share three of his sandwiches when I said I was hungry earlier this week, I figured that I would treat him to dinner at Rally's.  The food was passable.  The only thing I'm sure to return for are the hot apple pies, which were like the old McDonald's apple pies... fried.  After dinner I met up with Arpine and her boyfriend at The Coffee Table for her to check out my photos.

Banner and flowers all set for TheGirl's return

March 17, Today I went down around town getting ready for TheGirl's return from Hong Kong.  I took a trip down to the LA flower market to buy some of her favorite lilies.  I got a couple of bunches and then made a beeline to her place in order to put up the welcome home banner and arrange the flowers.  I ran the rest of my errands and returned home super tired.  I took an unschedule nap for a couple of hours, and went to bed early in order to be ready for tomorrow.  Woo! TheGirl comes back!

The actual plane TheGirl was aboard

March 18, TheGirl is back in the states! I picked her up from the airport today! I took her home, showed her my handy work with the banner and flowers and then took her and her daughter down to downtown Disney for some supper.  She was tired, to be sure, but she said she needed some Mexican food.  I went into Disneyland and got us a pair of churros, and we walked around downtown Disney for a while, then went home and enjoyed each other's company (if you catch my meaning).  It had been too long.  The day was pretty much the best I've had this month because I had my best friend back.

March 20, A couple of weeks ago an announcement was made at my job in San Marino that my co-worker Jane was leaving for greener pastures.  The opening she was leaving would need filling.  The position was meant for an internal person, so it was only open to those who already work for the recreation department.  Long story short, I had my interview for this opening today.  I think I did well considering I didn't prepare.  But I know my skills are good.  I know that I'm probably the most qualified for the applicants.  And I know that I want this because I want to get the pay raise.  All those were good motivation to put my best foot forward.  We'll see if that's good enough.

March 21, Today I heard something that has no meaning outside of trying to make me feel better.  "You're overqualified."  That's what I was told when I was informed that I didn't get the job.  This overqualified person is just TOO good for the job.  My bosses just couldn't see me "wasting my talents" at this job.  So they didn't give it to me.  They gave it to the least qualified person of the bunch.  My other co-worker, who also didn't get the job, agrees with me.  This isn't sour grapes, it's knowing that the co-worker that got the job can barely handle herself on the circulation desk.  No one that I've talked to from work can believe LM (the one that got the job) is capable of doing this job.  The only persons that think that are the ones that hired her.  Well good.  Let them suffer from her incompetence.  I give her two months before they realize that she can't cut muster.  On a side note.. this whole idea of being "overqualified." There's no such thing.  You are either qualified or you're not.  My bosses said that to me so I would feel better about not getting the job.  It didn't.  I saw through their lie and it's only made me feel worse.

March 23 - 24, This weekend I had to contend with an upset stomach.  Thankfully spending time with TheGirl helped me at least forget the craps I felt in my belly.  Thankfully I was out of the house, and not laying down at home.  But I was worn out physically.  And for that I'm not thankful.  I've been getting sick a lot lately.  That's a relative term, but I feel that I'm getting sicker more often than in the past.  As far as the weekend, it was good.  We went to the Citadel in Commerce, a huge WalMart super center in Rosemead, and spent some quality time together.  Having to deal with my stomach was secondary, though annoying.

Me electrified by Silverlake

March 31, Today marked the last day of my "exhibition" at The Coffee Table.  The month went by super fast, and I didn't sell any photos That sucks, but at least more people got to see them than have probably seen them online in the years I've had them up.  TheGirl, her daughter, and I went down to the Coffee Table and took down the pictures.  It was nice to have had them up, but I'm also glad to bring them home.
The rest of the day we spent going to eat at The Veggie Grill in Hollywood and then walking around the Silverlake area of Sunset blvd.  It's a pretty neat part of Los Angeles.  One I haven't spent much time in, but that I want to spend more time exploring in the future.
