  A Packed Social Life

I write this "newsletter" in different ways. The events herein are things that really happen in my life, lest anyone think I'm making all this up. Why would I bother doing that? Sometimes I write what happened right after it occurs. But there are other times when I have to wait because I don't have the time to put down the events right after they happen. I maintain this part of my page because I like keeping a record of what I'm doing. My memory is piss poor, unless aided by photographs. When photographs aren't available, having a written record helps jar my memory. These are events that are admittedly trivial, but they are my life. They may only be important to me, but ultimately that's why I'm writing them. I share them with the world, but have no illusions that anyone is actually reading these words.

I haven't had much time to take pictures lately, but I have still managed to update Observer twice a week. Please check out that section in IMAGE_171. Enjoy!

Afterthoughts : This Past Month

I'm trying to think back at the events that happened this month and just a couple of things come to mind. But actually, it was a packed month. TheGirl and I went to Ventura, to Disneyland twice, and to the Alex theater. So despite me thinking nothing happened this month, my notes prove otherwise.

Oct 5, Steve Jobs died today. One of my co-workers from the library came up to me about a half hour before my shift was going to end to tell me the news. I was shocked, and a flush feeling came over my body. I felt saddened by his passing. I guess since I love my iPhone I must, by extension, love Steve Jobs. But rather I should say I love his work. Everyone will have a tribute to Steve Jobs in the coming days. What I want to add is this. What, I think, Steve Jobs did over the last decade was to allow more of the masses in on the idea that technology should be invisible. Like turning on your faucet and having fresh water come out of the tap. You don't need to know how it got there to enjoy it. I feel that is how Steve Jobs approached the computer. To have that device live up to its potential to change humanity it had to be like the faucet. Easily understood, easily accessible, and invisible. While other tout how fast their processor is, and how much more memory this year's model has compared to last year's, Apple keeps chugging along. Anyone could have built the iPhone. But no one had the fully formed idea until Apple fully formed it. Thank you Steve Jobs. I became a "Mac" back in 2007, and I've never looked back.

Fish & Chips with TheGirl

Oct 8, TheGirl and I took a trip to Ventura to get some fish & chips at a place called Andria's Seafood. The fish was pretty good, but I remember debating with TheGirl whether I should buy some Bob's Big Boy tartar sauce to take with me. I was afraid that the tartar sauce at Andria's wasn't going to be tangy enough. Sure enough, it wasn't. Good fish overall, but for me one of the key components in fish & chips is the tartar sauce. Next time we go I'm going to take some Bob's Big Boy tartar sauce with me. After lunch TheGirl decided to feed the rest of her fries to the seagulls. Here's a video of what happened.

Happy Birthday Sofia & Jacqueline

Oct 10, My cousin's twins, Sofia & Jackie, celebrated their 3rd birthday today. The party was held at Chuck E. Cheese's. I remember going to that Chuck E Cheese's nearly every day when my cousin Beto was living with us for a summer way back in the mid 90's. The place has changed a little, but still has the bad anamatronic figures that barely move with the music. But, where else are you going to have a kid's birthday party? I concentrated on winning tickets from the various games in order to win some prizes for the two girls. I won quite a few prizes, and even had enough tickets to get TheGirl a prize.. a Sponge Bob pick up sticks game. Good times.

Oct 12, Disneyland held a special annual passholders only event tonight. It was meant to showcase a parade, but TheGirl, her daughter, and I skipped the parade in favor of attractions. Not all the attractions were operating during the after-hours event. But enough, like The Matterhorn and Space Mountain, as well as Star Tours, were to make the night super fun. The highlight of the night was riding The Matterhorn twice in a span of 15 minutes. The Matterhorn has never been as fun as when I'm riding it with TheGirl. She has made my incredible life all the more incredible. I have always been happy. But my happiness knows new heights thanks to her.

birthday at Disneyland

Oct 14, TheGirl's daughter's birthday was today. To celebrate we went to DISNEYLAND! I love going to Disneyland with TheGirl. Everything is just that much better with her there. I've been going to Disneyland with my annual pass for many years. I stopped going, but then a few years back I started up again. But ever since TheGirl got her own annual pass back in May my trips to Disneyland have been a source of great joy. Sharing her daughter's birthday with her proved to me that despite the origins of our relationship I have won her daughter over. I know that it's in big part to the way she knows I treat her mother (TheGirl). She knows I love her very much, and she sees her Mother happy for the first time in a very long time. That makes me happy. :)

Plan 9 From Outer Space poster

Oct 22, I took TheGirl to see a movie called "Plan 9 from Outer Space" at the Alex theater in Glendale today. "Plan 9" is a movie by Ed Wood, considered the worst movie of all time. But it's really not. I love the movie because it's just SO silly. TheGirl liked it as well. It was the first time I saw the movie on the big screen. It was cool, despite having to deal with a couple of technical issues such as a mediocre print. Never mind that, the movie is fun and terrible all at once. I'm glad I was able to share that particular movie with TheGirl.

Oct 27, I was informed today that my photo "exhibit" that's up that the Glendale public library can stay up until the end of the year. Extending what was supposed to be two months and doubling it. I have to do something to parlay this into something other than simply an exhibition.

interior of the den of inequity

Oct 28, my buddy took me to a strip club tonight. Here's what I wrote in my journal about the whole experience:

So last night one of my buddies and I went to a strip club to celebrate our birthdays. It was the first strip club I have ever gone to, and most likely the last. It really wasn't my idea of fun, but I can't say I didn't have any fun. Certainly the nude women made up for some of the more seedy elements. But then again, the place saddened me really. What I have with TheGirl is special indeed. Going to a strip club with my buddy confirmed that idea. What happens there is fake, and quite base. I watched the men watch the women. And I thought about what I looked like watching the women. It was not pleasant. Especially considering I have found love. I'm not going to lie to you, I like looking at women and checking them out. Duh, I'm a guy. But last night was different. There was something honest about the fact that everyone knew why they were there, but that also made it all the more base. I'm glad we didn't stay long. We were home before midnight, and we arrived at the club at 10pm.

My buddy had a good time. He got three dances in that time, and bought me one. The girl who danced for me was nice, I suppose. There was such a detachment that I honestly don't remember what her name was, or much else. I do remember the dance a little. But I also remember thinking of TheGirl, and how a lap dance was not as nice as holding her hand, or kissing her nose. Not much is as nice as that. I'm lucky to have her.

Oct 30, TheGirl has been in Vegas since Wednesday because she has some things to take care of pertaining to her father's house. I couldn't go with her for the whole week, but we were talking about me possibly making a one day trip up today to spend some time with her. This week and a half period is the longest we've been apart since we started seeing each other. Even during the "break-up" we were only apart for a six days. The whole thing fell through when I also suggested that I bring TheGirl's daughter's boyfriend with me so we could both spend some time with our girlfriends. But, he wasn't able to make it and TheGirl didn't want her daughter to feel left out knowing that I was there and her boyfriend wasn't there. It probably works out for the best since I have work tomorrow and driving back from Vegas super early would be very tiring.

Oct 31, I spent today sick as a dog. Bad enough that I had to stay home from work, a rarity. I'm not going into my morning job tomorrow, but I might risk going to my evening job. I need the cash, and hours I miss means money I don't make. I see trick or treaters outside, but thankfully they're passing over our house. My aunt bought a couple of bags of candy, but it's not enough. And, I want the candy for myself.

Etcetera : iPhone Project 52/2011 October pictures

Now that the 2010 iPhone 52 project is done I've decided to continue with that same theme and post more pictures featuring the many qualities and apps on my iPhone for 2011, not just one particular app like last year.  I decided to post one picture using different apps on Sunday, and continue showcasing the ShakeItPhoto "fauxlaroid" app on Mondays thoughout the year.  Enjoy.
