Issue #120 - August 2011
  10 Years of Eric

This month is the tenth anniversary of my homepage.  I figured I would be online for a good long time, but not this long with this site.  But in that time I've grown and then contracted this site, only to grow it again in the last few years.  The biggest component of my homepage has always been my photography.  It has always been the part of the homepage I update more than any other section.  I'm thankful for this page, because it's a record of my life the last ten years.  The up and the downs, and good and the bad.  Life is precious, and having those moments "enshrined," so to speak, here helps me remember.  I have such a horrible memory, but show me a picture of a moment in time and I remember nearly everything about that moment.  Call it crazy, but this site jars my memory and keeps me from totally forgetting everything about my life over the last decade.

As far as updates, there's this page as well as more pictures added to IMAGE_171.  Enjoy.

Afterthoughts : This Past Month

In a way you can say that July is the month I turned everything around.  I went from being down in the dumps, to riding high.  I was due for some good fortune, and it has come in spades in July.  Here's what happened this month.

My new Honda Fit

July 1, Today I am the owner of a new Honda Fit! After being without a car for three months exactly, I bought a new Honda Fit today.  It's been a long time coming.  And thanks to being able to consolidate my debts I'm able to afford the payment on this nice little car.  I will hopefully never see the inside of a bus for a long time (unless it's by my choice).  Now I have to name my new car.

TheGirl and I in the new car

July 4, Spent the holiday with TheGirl.  We drove around in my new car, as we did last night as well.  I have an assignment of sorts.. to take a picture around Glendale and submit it to a photo contest.  No offense, but the entries from the previous years were pretty horrible.  I think if I take a good picture I have a better than good chance at winning.  The photo above is my first official portrait of TheGirl and I in the new car.  :)

Jersey Mike sub sandwich

July 12, I haven't had much variety when it comes to food lately.  But today I tried Jersey Mikes.  It was pretty good.  I can't see myself visiting too often, because $7 plus for a sandwich is hefty.  However, it was a big sandwich, and with some pepperoncinis, and a gallon of oil and vinegar, it tasted pretty good.

July 14, Today I did my first solo run as the GPL delivery driver.  I've had three weeks of training, but today was the big day that I was out on the route on my own.  It went pretty well.  No big glitches to speak of.  I think that something like delivering books can be super simple, but also not so much because there are little things that I can forget.  Thankfully on my first solo run I didn't mess up.  The best thing about being the delivery driver is not having to be in the office the entire day.

fried Oreo cookie

July 15 - 17, I spent the entire Carmageddon weekend with TheGirl.  We went to the OC Fair and ate like fiends (though probably not as much as the majority of the people visiting the fair).  I finally got to try fried Oreos.  They were damn good.  We capped off Carmageddon Saturday with a stop at Downtown Disney after the OC Fair.  Just as we finished dinner we got a pleasant surprise of fireworks above Disneyland.  It was wonderful to sit there with TheGirl at that moment, holding her close.  Sunday we ended our day going over to the original Tommy's location on Beverly.  TheGirl actually ate a Tommy's burger.  Amazing.  I hadn't had Tommy's in a long time, and it really hit the spot.  I should also mention that that side trip to Tommy's after work would not have been possible without my new car, which I named Crockett, after the main character played by Don Johnson on Miami Vice.  That was my favorite show growing up, so it's apropos that I name my car.  That's how I feel anyways.

One of my new duties, checking out books

July 19, First day on the GPL circulation desk went well.  Part of the new duties pertaining to my recent promotion is working the circulation desk.  Now I've done this for nearly four years at my San Marino job.  Yet the first night on the desk at Glendale I was super nervous.  I have to learn the different policies, and remember that what applies at one job doesn't apply at the other.  The machines are the same, with only slight variations.  I'm sure I'll get more comfortable as time good one.  For now, it's still a little nerve-racking.

I'm gonna eat you... not really

July 23, For a year I've been waiting for the dinosaur exhibit to open up at the Natural History museum.  Last year I went to check out the mammal exhibit, which was pretty cool.  But the dinosaur exhibit promised so much more, and it delivered.  The giant T-rex skeleton was the highlight for sure (pictured below).  TheGirl couldn't believe something like a dinosaur could have really existed.  I tried to convince her how scientists know that a dinosaur bone isn't just an ordinary bone, but she still wasn't convinced.  Oh well, we still had fun.

July 26, Today I got more time on the circulation desk.  I made a couple of mistakes, and I still faltered when it came to knowing all the policies.  However, I think I'm improving a lot.  I have the basics down pat.  Now I just have to get all the details to become second nature.

July 29, Today I found out for sure that my photos are going to be on display at the library.  Not that there was a big doubt, but I wanted to have to green light before I said anything.  Come September photos that I have taken with my iPhone will be on display for all to see.  I can't wait to see the reaction from my co-workers and friends.  I've been told that I can have a reception for the unveiling.  I hope to use this opportunity to showcase my work and to get my name out there.  Also, hopefully to make a few bucks.

I'm on a boat!

July 30, The Navy was showing off its wears this weekend in San Pedro, and TheGirl and I went down there to check out all the cool Navy stuff.  There were a million people waiting in line for the privilege of boarding an aircraft carrier.  The glamor ship is definitely the aircraft carrier, but TheGirl and I had more fun on a cruiser named the USS Princeton.  The tour of the Princeton was quite fun, and was more involved than the cursory tour of the USS Abraham Lincoln.  Both were fun, and the aircraft carrier's elevators were cool to ride on.  All-in-all a great time.

I choo choo choose you - awww

July 31, TheGirl and I celebrate our one year anniversary.  We've had our ups and downs, like all couples do.  Our ups have been quite nice.  Our downs have only made our relationship stronger.  At the end of the day we make each other happy... and that's what really counts.  There are still some rough times ahead, what with TheGirl's ex doing what he does.  But there are also a lot of great times ahead.  I know we can make it through a lot, because we've made it through this past year.  :)
For our anniversary we recreated our first "date." The heat prevented us from doing everything just as we did it last year.  But, we hit the highlights and then went back to her place to eat what we ate last year... tuna fish sandwiches.  And then we made love.  It has been a great year.

Etcetera : iPhone Project 52/2011 MONTH pictures

Now that the 2010 iPhone 52 project is done I've decided to continue with that same theme and post more pictures featuring the many qualities and apps on my iPhone for 2011, not just one particular app like last year.  I decided to post one picture using different apps on Sunday, and continue showcasing the ShakeItPhoto "fauxlaroid" app on Mondays thoughout the year.  Enjoy.
