Happiness, Continued
A year ago was the first time in eight years that I didn't update this page. I was in the middle of a hectic schedule of work and school. School turned out to be a dead-end, and of course work is a continual dead-end prospect. So what has changed in the last year? A few things. More on that later.
IMAGE_171 has a few updates. I'm continually weeding and replacing photos that I feel don't live up to my expectations. When I'm posting a picture to the site I obviously love it enough to show it off. But then there are times when I will look at it again and I find that it's not "up to snuff," so to speak. In those cases I replace it, with what I believe is a better photo. You be the judge.

Afterthoughts : This Past Month
Much of the first half of September was uneventful. I went to work, came home, then went back to work the next day. My birthday is in the middle of the month, and in the last few years the event has been rather uneventful as well. This year, for my 39th birthday, things changed. First off, there's Megan. She has changed my melancholy into happiness, my cynicism into slightly less cynicism. And though I can't say I look forward to birthdays, this last one was the best in a long time.
Big deal Birthday balloons
This is due in no small part to Megan making my birthday a grand event. She bought me a huge balloon (seen above) along with a bouquet of balloons, a mountain of donuts and brownies (not shown in picture), accompanied by more than a few handfuls of Mounds and Almond Joys. But this was just the start. The night concluded with us strolling around Monrovia and eating at one of my favorite places, Pie n' Burger. Well, it concluded a different way, but I won't bother you with those details. Suffice to say my 39th birthday was the best birthday I can remember. And it was all Megan's doing. Without her in my life this birthday would have simply been the countdown to the big 4-0.
On the cover of ArtNight Pasadena mailer
Yup, that's me on the right-hand side of the ArtNight Pasadena mailer (pictured above), along with my co-workers from The San Marino public library. Yes, the illustrious crew of the library is famous. The picture was taken at the Pacific Asian museum last year during ArtNight, as we chatted. We could see a cameraman taking pictures, but we didn't suspect that a year later we would be featured on the cover of the mailer. Yes, your friendly neighborhood Eric once again has a brush with fame. Perhaps someday it won't just be a brush with fame, but fame derived from my art. Oh well, soon enough.
Disneyland with Megan
Disneyland has ALWAYS been a source of fun for me. For many years I had an annual pass, but since no one else I know has one I've gone to the park alone. At my San Marino job we have a monthly staff meeting that ends seven hours before I start my shift. Instead of driving back home and spending my time doing who knows what, I drive down to Disneyland for a few hours.. alone. Finally, with a girlfriend on my side I was able to share my joy with someone. Megan later commented that I was like a "kid" having a great time. I told her, "Isn't that what I'm supposed to be at Disneyland?" She concurred. Spending the day with her made THIS trip all the more fun and joyful. This trip with Megan was the most fun I've had there perhaps ever.
This last week of the month I had a job interview at Glendale. It was for the position of library assistant. I won't know for a week whether I got the job or not. I think I did well on the interview, but only time will tell how well I truly did. I'll post the results in next month's entry.
